The Employment Standards Act (ESA) in BC continues to evolve. For staffing agencies and employers alike, staying current is not optional — it's a compliance requirement.

Minimum Wage Increase

Effective June 1, 2025, BC's minimum wage increased to $17.85/hr. This affects all workers, including temporary placements. STAFFCO has updated all bill rates accordingly.

Statutory Holiday Entitlements

Changes to how statutory holiday pay is calculated for employees with irregular hours took effect in January 2025. Workers with varied schedules now receive pay based on the average daily earnings over the 30 days preceding the holiday.

Sick Day Policy

BC employees are entitled to 5 paid sick days annually. This includes temporary workers who have been with a single employer for 90+ days. STAFFCO manages sick pay tracking for workers on long-term placements.

Action Required

If you have not reviewed your employment contracts with STAFFCO this year, contact your account manager to schedule a compliance review at no additional charge.
